The KIN*MIA Rising Sun Crew Neck Sweatshirt features the Japanese Nissoki (日章旗 or sun-mark) or Hinoman (日の丸 or circle of the sun) symbol with the kanji KIN (金), meaning “gold,” in the center. The name of this Crew Neck is a reference to Japan’s nickname, The Land of the Rising Sun — not to be confused with the Rising Sun Flag, which was the Japanese Warlords’ banner during the Edo period.
In both Japanese religion and mythology, the sun plays a crucial role: the Emperor is seen to be the direct descendent of the Sun Goddess Amaterasu and the entire legitimacy of the ruling class rested on divine appointment and descent from this chief deity in the Shinto religion.
Signing the Himinaru, as we have done here with our KIN kanji, is considered to be a good luck charm.
